Fruit Salad with Orange Vanilla Yogurt Sauce

The advent of warm weather means it’s time for summery outdoor meals, complete with fresh fruit!

This super simple recipe is versatile for multiple situations.  It’s lovely as part of breakfast or brunch, with croissants and muffins.  I’ve also served it as an evening dessert, particularly in situations where I know guests require a sugar-free or gluten-free option.   You can scale the quantity up or down, depending on how much you need.

The yogurt tastes like an Orange Julius and is quite tasty by itself, even without the fruit!

Here’s how you make it:

Ingredients:

–          A variety of fresh fruit of your choice (such as strawberries, bananas, grapes, etc)

–          lemon juice (optional)

–          750 mL plain yogurt

–          1 orange

–          1 tsp vanilla

Orange Vanilla Yogurt Sauce

  1. Wash the orange and grate the orange zest.
  2. Juice the orange.
  3. Combine yogurt, orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla in a medium bowl.  Stir well, and refrigerate for 1 hour to combine flavors.

Fruit Salad

Peel and chop a variety of fresh fruit into bite-size pieces.  If you are using fruits that brown quickly, add 1-2 tsp of lemon juice and stir well to prevent browning.

Serve fruit salad in small bowls, with a scoop of yogurt sauce on top!  Enjoy!
